As she got into their car, everything seemed normal. The couple spoke politely, asking about her life and work. Jhanak, unaware of their real intentions, shared small details about herself. However, as the journey continued, she started noticing something odd. The road they were taking didn’t seem to lead to the city. The streetlights grew fewer, and the surroundings became eerily silent. She asked them about the route, but Nilesh laughed it off, saying it was a shortcut.
A strange feeling of unease crept into Jhanak’s mind. She subtly tried to unlock her phone, but before she could send a message, Kavita snatched it from her hands. “No distractions while we drive,” she said with a fake smile. Jhanak’s heart pounded as she realized something was very wrong. She tried to open the car door, but the child lock was on. Her pulse quickened as she understood she was trapped.
Meanwhile, Anirudh was at home, waiting for Jhanak’s call. They had planned to meet for dinner, but she hadn’t called or messaged in hours. He tried calling her multiple times, but her phone was switched off. Worried, he called her office and found out she had left hours ago. A deep sense of fear settled in his chest. Something was wrong. Without wasting time, he got into his car and drove toward the last location she had mentioned.
Back in the car, Jhanak decided to act. She knew she had to escape before reaching their final destination. Taking a deep breath, she pretended to feel sick. “I don’t feel well. I think I’m going to throw up,” she said, clutching her stomach. Kavita sighed, annoyed, and told Nilesh to stop the car. As soon as they did, Jhanak quickly unfastened her seatbelt and attempted to run. But before she could get far, Nilesh grabbed her arm and dragged her back. “Nice try, but you’re not going anywhere,” he said coldly.
Jhanak struggled, kicking and screaming, but Kavita covered her mouth with a cloth soaked in chloroform. Her vision blurred, and within seconds, everything went dark.
When Jhanak woke up, she found herself in a dimly lit room with barred windows. The air smelled of dampness and fear. Around her were other girls, their faces filled with hopelessness. She tried to sit up, her head still spinning. A girl next to her, Meera, whispered, “You were kidnapped. These people sell girls like us.” Jhanak’s blood ran cold. She had heard of human trafficking cases before, but she never imagined she would be a victim.
Determined not to become another lost soul, Jhanak started observing the movements of the kidnappers. She noticed that they followed a routine—bringing food at the same time and patrolling in shifts. She knew that her only chance of escaping was to use their patterns against them.
Meanwhile, Anirudh had reached the last known location of Jhanak. He questioned people nearby, showing them her picture. A shopkeeper recalled seeing her get into a car with a couple. Anirudh felt a spark of hope. He asked for the car’s details and immediately contacted the police. Every second counted, and he was not going to waste it.
Back at the kidnappers’ hideout, Jhanak had come up with an escape plan. She convinced Meera to help her. That night, when their captors brought food, Jhanak pretended to collapse on the floor, clutching her throat. Panicked, one of the men rushed inside to check on her. As soon as he leaned down, Meera used all her strength to push him to the ground, while Jhanak grabbed a wooden plank and hit him hard on the head. He fell unconscious.
With trembling hands, Jhanak searched his pockets and found a key. She quickly unlocked the door, grabbing Meera’s hand. They ran through the corridors, their hearts pounding. Just as they reached the exit, an alarm went off. The kidnappers had realized what was happening.
They chased Jhanak and Meera through the dark alleys, but the two girls ran as fast as they could. Adrenaline fueled their bodies as they pushed forward. Soon, they reached the main road and spotted a truck. Desperate, they waved their hands, screaming for help. The driver, noticing their fear-stricken faces, stopped. “Please help us! We’ve been kidnapped!” Jhanak pleaded. Without hesitation, the driver let them in and sped away.
At the same time, Anirudh and the police arrived at the hideout. A fierce confrontation ensued. The kidnappers tried to escape, but the police managed to arrest them. Anirudh’s eyes frantically searched for Jhanak, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Moments later, his phone rang. It was Jhanak. “Anirudh, I escaped. I’m safe,” she said, her voice shaking. Tears filled Anirudh’s eyes. “Where are you? I’m coming right now,” he said. She told him her location, and within minutes, he arrived.
The moment Jhanak saw Anirudh, she broke down. He ran to her, pulling her into a tight hug. “You’re safe. That’s all that matters,” he whispered. Jhanak sobbed in his arms, the weight of the past hours finally crashing down.
The police soon arrived at the station with the arrested criminals. Jhanak gave her statement, ensuring that the kidnappers wouldn’t hurt anyone else again. The authorities praised her bravery, but deep down, she knew that the trauma of the experience would stay with her for a long time.
As she sat in the car with Anirudh, heading home, she looked out the window, her mind replaying everything. “What if I had never escaped?” she whispered. Anirudh took her hand and squeezed it gently. “You did. That’s what matters. You’re strong, Jhanak. And I’ll always protect you.”
